Franklin Canyon Park

My new discovery I wanted to share with you is, The Franklin Canyon Park, a kid-friendly, adventurous, and beautiful hike.

The Franklin Canyon Park is a beautiful 260-acre land that is between San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills. You feel like you are exploring the jungle with lots of different types of trees, grassland and oak woodland.

In the middle of the whole area, there is a three-acre lake that inhabits different types of animals. There were different species of ducks, geese, turtles, goldfish, tadpoles which definitely had the kids excited. (Remember no feeding any animals).

The park has three different trails you can walk depending on how long you want to hike and the difficulty level.

Discovery Trail – It loops through the woodland along the canyon bottom. – 0.3miles roundtrip

Hastain Trail – It is a moderate to strenuous hike. It gives an overview of the lower canyon, west Los Angeles, and on a clear day, the Pacific Ocean. From there, it becomes a single-track trail that arrives at the old Doheny house. – 2.3miles roundtrip

Berman Trail – It is also a moderate to strenuous hike. It takes you across the Santa Monica Mountains from Franklin Canyon to Coldwater Canyon Park and Wilacre Park. – 1 mile

We ended up doing the Discovery Trail as we were just starting off hiking with the kids, but I can say, it was definitely a smooth hike. The kids loved it because they had to go under a branch, jump over few objects, figure out the way, walk through the tall grasses and try to get to the pond. We also got lost at some point and had to make our way back. However, it was a lot of fun and a good stimulation for kids because it diverts them from technology.

It is totally safe to go with small to big kids and also a great place for photoshoots.
